Bonnie is an absolute love - she is happy and playful, wanting her own family and wondering why she is back in foster.  Truth is Bonnie came to us, along with her brother, both being Heartworm positive.  We treated both dogs and each was adopted but Bonnie's adopter was concerned that the Heartworm issue was back and returned her to us for treatment.  Thankfully Bonnie's original foster was able to take her back and she will soon be seeing her original vet.

The following was written by her foster mom:

Bonnie is a friendly and sweet girl who is a well-mannered and an excellent companion.

Bonnie is completely housetrained, and calm indoors.  Friendly to all she meets, affectionate and sweet without being needy.  A true companion.  She is easy to be with, but could use some refinement on stay.  She has sit, leave it, off, wait and with-me.  She walks well on a leash, and like any dog she is a little excited to start, but doesn’t pull hard.  Gentle reminders will have her right by your side.

She loves, loves, loves the snow and gets the zoomies outside in the fenced yard.  She does not jump up.  If you were to ask her to, she will come up to give you a kiss.  She will stay off the couch and bed, but if you are ok with it I believe she would love to be with you while watching TV or at night guarding you while you sleep.  She does well overnight, and loves to wake you with a gentle nose on your shoulder.  She has adapted to my situation really well.  She is generally very quiet.  She is interested in chasing deer, and if outside in the pen has barked a few times and settled.  She has a medium coat that is silky and easily managed.

Adoption ideals:  Can you give Bonnie the time to adapt to your lifestyle?  Can you give her 3 days to get used to you?  3 weeks to understand what is expected?  and  3 months to really feel like she belongs?  I will be available to help with the adjustment.  She is completely worth it.  She is one of the sweetest dogs I have met.  A sweet and gentle spirit, she can take low level correction, but too strong a correction will have her feeling unsure.  She is highly adaptable given the chance.  She has met my cat, and left my cat alone.  Interested, but not overly interested.  If you have cats a slow introduction is recommended.  She has been with my Boston Terrier, and with minor insecurity issues on his end, they have gotten along very well.

An ideal situation would be a fenced yard, and allowed in the house.  If you are active she would love to go along on hikes, or camping.  If you are not very active but have a yard she will exercise herself.  She has lived outside but dropped weight, so full time outside would not be beneficial for this dog.  Some dog experience would be nice, but she is easy.  Dog-proofing and taking up anything that might pose counter-surfing opportunities or other potential errors are appreciated until she is settled.  If in the Bitterroot, I would be happy to come over and help with assimilation into your lifestyle.  If not, I’d be happy to address any issues over the phone.
