1-17-07 Loo is such a sweetheart! He is around 3 years old, and we have just had him fixed. He loves to be around people, where he will lean into you, look at you with his big brown eyes and ask for a hug! He is not aggressive around other dogs, but will happily follow them around the yard, share the water bowl and eat dinner right next to them. He even appears to be housebroken, as he will put his head in your lap and start to whine when he wants to go outside! He came to us from an animal shelter, and they thought that he had been fending for himself for some time. He is very underweight, coming in at just 75 pounds. He needs to gradually put on at least 25-35 pounds, while building up his muscles and strength. Currently he doesn't have any problems with climbing the stairs on the outside deck or walking inside on the carpet, but he refuses to walk on a bare hardwood floor. We have had his hips x-rayed, and there are no problems. We think that he just doesn't have the strength yet to feel comfortable walking on a bare floor. Loo LOVES to be outside, exploring the yard with his doggy friends. But when the time comes to bring them inside, he happily trots along with his two pyr friends when the doggy treat jar is held up, and the word 'cookies' travels across the wind! However, Loo's favorite food is anything that comes out of a can. He is not too fond of dry food or dry treats, but when mixed with canned food or gravy, he will gobble it up. My two pyrs know that he doesn't really like dry dog biscuits, because they wait in anticipation as he takes a Milk Bone, rolls it around in his mouth, discovers that it is a dry food treat, and then literally spits it out across the room...and my two are ready to catch it! One last word is about Loo is that he HATES to ride in a car. He will do everything he can to try to dig his way out, or to sit in the driver's lap! He really needs to be contained when traveling (tying his leash to a door handle works just fine), for both his safety and yours! In short, he will make a wonderful family dog that loves to stay home, both in the house and yard, but he would not make a good traveling companion!
