9-22-06 Eve came to us in late Sept, in very poor health and with a very cloudy history on the day she was to be euthanized. We decided to start with a good vet check up and take it from there. The vet estimated her to be about 4 yrs old, spay, and suffering from a deep skin infection, long term malnutrition and untreated hypothyroidism. Eve was started on good solid nutrition, medication and very gentle foster care. Over the next month, Eve blossomed beautifully. She is a flowing, graceful, happy girl. She will probably need her medication daily for the rest of her life. She is an alpha female, getting along with all who respect her as such; she romps and plays with my younger females and big Pyr male. As with many past abuse animals, she needs to be fed by herself. She has proven to be calm and gentle around cats and chickens. For some strange reason, this does not apply to ducks, and she does not seem to be familiar with livestock. She is mature and very well mannered in the house, and definitely prefers to be in with her family. She can be turned away from anything with a soft verbal command of 'No'. She is totally house broken and will go to the door and wait if needed. She does not jump up on people or counters. She is comfortable in a car and walks reasonably well on a leash. She has a wonderful deep growl when she hears a car drive up while inside the house, yet she greets strangers of men, woman and children in a relaxed, friendly manner. She is often in a fenced yard when we are gone and she seems happy without jumping or digging, although she is a typical Pyr barker and is already guarding her foster territory from the local deer, joggers, even neighboring horses. She will bark when left outside. Eve is about 24' at the shoulder, weighing about 90#. Her coat, although still coming in, is soft and shiny without the thick wool-like under coat of some Pyrs. She also has a very tight mouth with no drooling. In summary, Eve is a delightful, beautiful, and very affectionate creature who is ready to give devotion and love to a forever family.
