COURTESTY LISTING - this dog remains with her owners and is not in rescue.

SEEK: Loving home - country environment - for amazing Maremma Sheepdog!

After adapting Kenna, our gorgeous, white Maremma Sheepdog on New Year's Eve 2010, we have grown to know her and love her.

Because of her inbred guardian dog nature – which includes barking – it is in her best interest that we are looking for a country home for her.

Maremmas have been bred for 100's of years in the Italian Alps for slaying wolves. They are not built to be house pets! Kenna needs plenty of space to run and BARK. She’s definitely a barker (not appropriate to suburban neighborhoods)! Kenna is an amazing guard dog! She is extremely ALPHA for a female, however she has not bitten anyone even though she comes off as being highly aggressive.

We love Kenna... and unfortunately we are totally underskilled dog trainers for her needs. We are not happy that we have to keep her tied up 90%.

She’s a very loving, playful dog, who is also very intelligent and independent. She is true to her breed as she doesn’t like to consistently follow basic commands, although she does understand them. As far as we know, she has never been around livestock. She has been great with our three kids, ages 11, 13, and 17. It did take some time to adjust to our English Mastiff, but they are now fast friends.

Kenna currently lives with us as an indoor dog. She is well house-trained and not allowed on the furniture. She is not allowed roam free in the house because she aggressively barks at passerby’s.

If you could help us find a great home for her, we'd greatly appreciate it.
