Sweet Sam (now known as Harry) is still looking for his forever home! He has the most loveable personality and deserves a family that loves him as much as he loves them.

Sam's story: Sam came to us because he was frequently escaping from the pen where he was guarding goats and sheep. The fences were not adequate, the herd was actually too small for two dogs according to a livestock guardian expert that I talked with - a nd since Sam was the escape artist, the people decided to keep the other dog and give Sam up. The fact that Sam had not been neutered and was being fed low quality food from a self feeder probably added to his desire to escape. Bottom line is that we took him in and later discovered that had received NO veterinary care. He is now neutered, up to date on all necessary vaccinations and is in a responsible foster home. He is 2-3 years old and wants to be someone's companion, not a livestock guardian. Sam has been tested for and diagnosed with Heartworm - something that we here in Montana rarely see, but Sam was brought in from TN by his former owners. We set up a GoFundMe site for Sam, collected funds for his vet care, and are in the process of getting him started on his heartworm meds.... He showed no signs of heartworm, appears healthy and happy.

Sam has been in foster but now needs to be moved because he and the foster parents' dog got into a bit of a tussle - neither dog was hurt and this is what the foster mom said:

Harry/Sam is great with little dogs and cats - no aggression at all. I wasn't at home yesterday when Robby and he had their tussle but neither were hurt. But Robby is double his weight and I am actually worried about Robby hurting Sam. My Pyr is a grumbly gus and everybody else just walks around him but Sam doesn't ignore him and then we get some challenging going on.

I want to re-emphasize that he is not only not aggressive with the little dogs or cats but is actually protective of them. One of ours was "chasing" my little around the yard and Sam got in the way to break up the chase. My old cat will curl up with him to nap. He is NOT being crated at all anymore - the crate was actually making him very anxious. He is free-roaming at night and when no one is home and no damage has been done. I think he just needs more socialization and time to adjust to a non-guarding lifestyle.
