HOT Summer 2021 -- Wednesday August 4th, 2021

August 2021 Every time I post I think it will be to tell you that we have placed so many dogs that we are almost empty.... so far that just hasn't happened. Right now we have close to 20 dogs listed - about 9 of those are at Old Farm Kennels in Florence, MT; 6 are with a great foster by Bozeman; 1 is still at RuffLife Kennels in UT; a couple are being fostered in UT and the rest are courtesy listings from MT or UT..... Bottom line folks - we DESPERATELY need foster homes for some of these dogs. We try hard to follow National Great Pyrenees Rescue's guidelines which says they shouldn't be fostered in families with children under 6 years old or with anyone who doesn't have appropriate fencing. Of course our preference is that fosters have experience with Pyrs. If you are willing to help by fostering, PLEASE complete our online Adoption/Foster Application here: https://greatpyrrescuemt.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=4155

*** Normally we would kick off the year early, but in these strange times it just seems right to start after (hopefully) the end of the Covid year..... During the last year we were fortunate to place many dogs - but now something has happened and we are overwhelmed with displaced dogs! So far no one has said "I adopted Rover so I would have company while I was stuck at home and now that I can get out of the house I don't need Rover any longer" - but that is the feeling that we are getting. PLEASE help us find homes for all of the Rovers that we have taken in - and the ones still waiting in homes for us to take them. I promise that we will do better as far as keeping up with the news, but for now know that we have NINE dogs at Old Farm Kennel in Florence, MT and more still in Bozeman and Utah, with all of these dogs still looking for their forever homes.

SEVEN - the number of days until Christmas -- Friday December 18th, 2020

SEVEN - the number of days until Christmas, but ALSO the number of dogs who are going to have to spend Christmas in the kennel if you don't act fast.  Each of these dogs wants a wonderful new home and it is definitely what we want for them....  PLEASE don't put off bringing one of these wonderful dogs home - you won't be sorry.

You can see Goldie, Grizz, Koda, Lucy, Nova, Simba and Zeus here:

https://greatpyrrescuemt.rescuegroups.org/animals/list

We also want to remind you that our rescue Pyrs who come to the Bitterroot are pretty lucky to stay at Old Farm Kennels at 5451 Eastside Hwy in Florence.

Yes, we pay for their stay, but we know that they are well cared for and when we don't have foster homes for them we are certain that they are staying at the next best place.

You can meet our Pyrs by stopping there or you can board your dog - or even your cat - there too by phoning ahead to 406 273-6837

EARLY DECEMBER 2020 -- Tuesday December 1st, 2020

Oh my gosh, so much excitement lately.... last Saturday our rescue boy Anubis and his foster mom Jennifer were featured on a podcast presentation by National Great Pyrenees Rescue.

This Saturday, December 12, our handsome boy Takaani and his foster mom Kelsie will be featured - don't miss seeing them, as well as trainers Steve Kalko and Roman Gottfried. If you have questions about your own Pyr, this might be the time to get them answered.

TAKAANI

Here we are in December already and still with TOO MANY rescued Pyrs...  Where are you adopters????   PLEASE don't make all of these wonderful dogs spend Christmas in the kennel - its time to take a look at our list of dogs and meet your new companion.  Just check our list to find your friend:  /animals/list

Our good friends at  https://www.warbleswithbella.com/  are holding an online Holiday auction for us until November 30th.... don't miss out on the MANY special available items!!

NOVEMBER 2020 -- Sunday November 1st, 2020

We are over halfway through the month of November and would normally be sweating being able to pay our board bill for all of the rescued Pyrs - BUT our Utah contingent of members and volunteers have managed to rescue US....  they put together a fantastic online auction earning enough to get us through.  We are extremely grateful for the efforts they put forth for the Pyrs and for Great Pyrenees Rescue Montana.

We are SO in need of foster homes in Montana and ESPECIALLY in Utah. There are SO MANY dogs needing help in Utah that we can’t help without more foster families.

If you have experience with dogs - especially companion/livestock guardian breeds AND can give one a home for at least a couple of weeks and evaluate it for placement, we REALLY need you.

Please complete our online Foster/Adoption application:

SEPTEMBER 2020 UPDATE -- Tuesday September 1st, 2020

Another month gone by and both Kona and Rocky are still living at the kennel.  I know they don't look like a typical Pyr - but both dogs have plenty of heart and plenty of love for anyone who adopts them.  Rocky recently went on an overnight camp trip with one of our volunteers - he was there to protect her and he will protect you.  Kona has a lot to learn but she is full of love and will have the natural desire to protect too.  PLEASE consider them - they are just waiting to show you how much love they have to give.

AUGUST 2020 -- Saturday August 1st, 2020

One good thing this year was the surge of adoptions during the heat of the COVID "thing" - however Adoption Applications seem to be dropping off and we still have a number of dogs that have been with us too long and REALLY need to find loving homes:

         KONA               ROCKY

JULY 2020 -- Wednesday July 1st, 2020

Where are you June?  Actually we are glad to see more of this strange year gone.  More changes for the rescue in June - three of the wonderful workers from Utah - Melissa, Rebecca and Debbie - have rejoined us and we are back to taking in Utah shelter dogs as we can.

Something that is so very important to rescue - adopters  MUST  give their adopted dogs time to figure things out - you can see by the chart above just how dogs must have time to adjust to things - you cannot assume that they will be the same after 3 weeks or a month as they are on the day you take them home....  if you aren't willing to put in some time with them, please don't adopt them in the first place - we want our rescues to go to loving Pyrmanent homes.

MAY 2020 -- Friday May 1st, 2020

We hope that this finds you well and comfortable.  Some of you, like us, will still be hunkering down and waiting for this awful time to be over.  Thankfully we have our fur friends for company and I want to remind you that we still have some wonderful dogs available to keep you company.  Please take a look at our list of dogs and see if there is one or more that you want to cuddle up with.  Several of the available dogs are at Old Farm Kennels in Florence, MT and would love to have you come by and meet them.

MARCH 2020 -- Sunday March 1st, 2020

A week later than our last post and the world has changed... sadly we are all staying home and away from one another - BUT happily some of us have our wonderful and happy fur friends to keep us company!

You too could have the pleasure of a fur friend who would provide you with attention, love, comedic relief, and companionship.  These love bugs are ready to come into your home and be there for you.  We still have several dogs just waiting for someone to take them home.

***********

Today is Friday the 13th and I probably should have stayed home instead of going to the kennel to check on our rescue dogs - but I didn't.  I said hello to all SEVEN of the Pyrs and the one Saint Bernard that are now in our possession....  with one more Pyr coming tomorrow - and it is one with medical issues.

We desperately need foster homes in Montana as boarding this many dogs is beyond our financial capabilities - of course adoptive homes would be even better.  Here are the dogs at Old Farm Kennel in Florence - please read about them on their own pages, just click on their names shown under "List" on the left side of the page:

FEBRUARY 2020 -- Saturday February 1st, 2020

One month of 2020 down and here we are again asking for your help.  We have more mouths needing feeding and bodies needing boarding than ever.  As of today we have 7 Pyrs at Old Farm Kennel in Florence, MT being fed and boarded and 6 of them are pictured below.  The January bill was over $2000 and it looks as tho February can be that high - or higher - with the number of calls that keep coming in.  We would like to ask two things -  one  that you take a look at all of these dogs and see if there is one that might work for you - or for a friend or relative.

     Chance

Dozer

    Kassie

      Olaf

      Phoebe

      Sasha

Two  is that we need to ask for your financial help - again - to keep these dogs safe and healthy.  Please donate to our GoFundMe request here:

DECEMBER 2019 -- Thursday December 26th, 2019

Yay - we made it through Christmas!!  That said, we have a fairly new story of need for you:

On December 2nd, GPRM was contacted by a fellow rescuer out of Lewistown, MT.  A few kind souls had rescued brother and sister Great Pyrenees/Spanish Mastiff mixes and saved them from being shot by their owner. The rest of their 9 siblings were already assumed dead from gunshot wounds. These two were the ‘lucky ones’ - even though the owner had taken a shot at the female, it seemed that she was truly lucky and was taken to safety and loved on by these kind volunteers.   It unfortunately became obvious a few days later that the female, now named “Sister,” was becoming weak and was generally not well; upon further inspection, the group realized that she had been shot, too!

A veterinarian determined that Sister had a bullet lodged in her lung, causing it to deflate and infect all of the tissue around both lungs. Her chances were grim and there was very little hope that she would live. That said, after over a week of medications, constant care from the veterinary staff, and drains to clear the infection, this beautiful girl is on her way to a new life and a new start!   At this point we find ourselves with a healthy girl on the road to recovery, and a sizable vet bill for close to $4500.

Meanwhile, her brother Cyrus has made his way to us and is getting some basic training in preparation to moving on to a Pyrmanent home.  The picture we posted shows Cyrus watching over Sister before it was discovered that she had been shot

We humbly ask for your support in helping us cover Sister’s vet bill and sending her on her way to a new loving home!

NOVEMBER 2019 -- Tuesday November 19th, 2019

Thanks to all the families that gave our recent litter of puppies homes! They have all been placed.

We are excited to be active representatives of National Great Pyrenees Rescue in Montana.  Although we go by Great Pyrenees Rescue Montana, we operate under the 501C3 non-profit status of National and follow their rules and guidelines.

It is important for our foster dogs to have new and Pyrfect homes - so PLEASE , before you fill out an application to adopt, go to the bottom of this page and click on Great Pyrenees Breed Information ...  Read it all the way through and acquaint yourself with this wonderful breed - understand that more than with many other breeds, the Pyrenees has certain behaviors that you can almost count on - barking (part of their guarding instinct), wandering (they have to patrol to guard and they don't know where their patrol area ends) - they sometimes have selective hearing when it comes to commands...etc.  We are going to ask you if you either have experience with the breed or have read their description - so be prepared. enlightened

Want to know what a foster Pyrent does?  These photos will give you a few clues :

A Pyr foster parent may need to accompany their dog to a vet.  This is Bosco actually going to Physical Therapy after hip surgery.

A Pyr foster parent          may need to become accustomed to seeing  their dog being used as  somebody's pillow.

When the school bus stops in front of your home, as a Pyr foster parent you are in charge of introductions.
